Allenhurst New Jersey was once a sleepy little rural burg, that gradually grew into a suburb of nearby New York City. Allenhurst train station connects the community to Newark Penn Station, Secaucus Junction, and New York Penn Station, as well as the Hoboken Terminal.
Allenhurst is also known for a large number of historic older homes that highlight the popular architectural styles of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Local ordinances have been put in place to help preserve these structures into the future.
The area was also hit hard by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The high winds damaged shingles and siding on many homes, while also leading to localized flooding problems. Since that time Allenhurst has worked hard to restore the classic charm of their historic town.
