Elberon is a small town that serves basically as an extension of Long Branch, New Jersey. It has the curious distinction of being the place where former President Garfield went in hopes of recovering from an assassination attempt. He managed to live for over two more months, hoping the seaside air would help heal him, yet lost his life to the infection. A tea house and monument were left in his honor.
On a more positive note, Elberon is also part of the famous and much beloved Jersey Shoreline. This means it draws large numbers of beach-goers every summer, as well as hosting some special events.
Elberon is also on the New Jersey transit line, which makes it relatively convenient for traveling to New York City or nearby Philadelphia
