Keyport New Jersey has been called “The Pearl of the Bayshore” and “The Gateway to the Bayshore” by locals and tourists. It features a diverse shopping district which includes their famous West Front Street area.
In the 20th century, Keyport was also a major producer in the oyster industry. However, increasing water quality issues in the area led the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to close the fishery for the foreseeable future.
Keyport is also a part of the Bayshore Regional Strategic Plan. The goal of the program is to revitalize communities with classic downtown areas, maritime heritage, and rich history. This, along with tourism has helped Keyport to stabilize and grow in the 21st century.
